Ev Ting was finally granted permission after persuading his family to let him follow his interest in MMA. He then started to get ready for his first amateur fight by working really hard in the gym. Ting competed in his first amateur match against Thomas Campbell on February 27, 2010, and won by submission. Sadly, he was unable to extend his winning streak after losing to Eddie Davis in his second fight. Nevertheless, he put in a lot of training and was successful in defeating Hayden Watt and Julian Gemmell, respectively.
Ting decided to go to professional fighting after four amateur matches. On April 2, 2011, he engaged in his first professional fight against Shane Wescombe, which he handily won. Mark Abelardo and Will Chope were defeated by him as he maintained his winning streak. However, Mark Striegl soundly defeated him, snapping his three-match winning streak. Despite the defeat, he didn’t give up and was able to turn things around by beating competitors like Dustin Terill, Rolando Dy, and Scott MacGregor. Later, on June 14, 2014, he made his MMA debut in the ONE Championship competition.
He used a TKO to defeat Yohan Mulia Legowo in his opening contest there. Since then, he has been able to prevail in nearly all of his fights. He has participated in 16 matches in the ONE Championship to this point, winning 11 of them.
